Barn Door, Murphy beds, Stained Beds, Velar, Vertical
About This Project
This queen vertical Murphy bed in Banyan Brown transforms a Spanish Oaks home office into a guest space that feels completely at home in a room with real character. Banyan Brown is a warm, honey-toned stain that lets the wood grain come through fully, rich without being dark, and natural enough to suit a room with exposed beam ceilings, Persian rugs, and collected art without competing with any of it.
The sliding barn door hardware is the defining feature of this install. A full-width black iron rail spans the entire system, and the doors glide open rather than swing, keeping the floor plan open and making the wall feel intentional from across the room. The chevron pattern on the door panels adds texture and visual interest that reads as furniture-quality craftsmanship rather than a storage unit. Black bar pulls keep the hardware consistent with the iron rail hardware throughout.
Deep open shelving towers flank the bed face on both sides, providing generous display and storage space that suits a room this layered in personality. The deployed bed photo shows exactly how this system commands the space, the vaulted ceiling, exposed beams, and warm stained wood all working together to make the guest room feel like the most interesting room in the house.
With the bed and doors stowed, the room is a warm, characterful home office with built-in shelving. With the bed deployed it becomes a guest room that guests will actually remember.
